The Inverell Art Gallery is a "Living Gallery" - always a hub of activity with people coming & going - attending classes, working as volunteers or just meeting with friends for a chat - that's what makes it such a special place.

The Inverell Art Gallery has weekly art classes, social art groups & regular workshops with visiting tutors.

Acrylic Painting

Tuesday Evening 6pm to 9pm

Wednesday Morning 9am to Noon

Description

Acrylic paint is a waterbased medium that allows the artist to be able to paint in a wide range of techniques from the washes of watercolour to the solid look of oil paint.

You can join at any time.

Tutor Peter Champion
Peter Champion

Peter began his Art career at the National Art School in Sydney from the years 1969 to 1973 along with a Diploma in Art (Ed.) from Alexander Mackie CAE also in Sydney.

He spent 10 years as a secondary Art Teacher at Macintyre High School Inverell and Gosford High School.

Peter's specialty has become Oil painting of the landscape with his way of painting being described as atmospheric, realist and related to the light of a particular time of day and the effects of that light. 

Peter and his wife Carol have returned to Inverell to live and have relocated their business, New England Hobbies.  Peter will be tutoring at the Gallery in drawing, acrylics & oils.

Folk Art

Description

Folk Art involves the decoration of items in everyday use such as trays, boxes, photo albums & even mail boxes.  It's a traditional artform which changes to reflect the times of the people creating it.

Merlene Konz

Merlene first became interested in Folk Art in 1990.  She did an intesive Country Folk Art Teaching course in Sydney & then began teaching at the Inverell Art Gallery in 1991.  Merlene has been a regular tutor & helper at the Gallery ever since.

Helena South

Helena was born in Cambridge, England & moved to Australia in 1966. She has been painting since 1976.  She completed a four year Visual Arts Course at the Glen Innes Tafe & has attended numerous workshops over the years.  Helena has a great love of animals which is evident in her art.

Description

This class is open to all levels of competency.  Students can try throwing on the wheel, concentrate on hand building or try a bit of both.

Debbie Doye

Debbie is an experienced potter who is able to guide her students through the various techniques of potting.  She makes classes fun for both beginners & the more experienced.

The craft of leadlighting has been around for thousands of years.  In this class you will learn to make beautiful lamps, suncatchers or even a window for your home.

Warwick Gardner

Warwick grew up in Sydney in a house with leadlighting panels.  This is where his love of the coloured glass began.  He first did a basic leadlighting course at the Inverell Art Gallery with a visiting tutor in 1996 & then expanded his knowledge by visiting craftsmen in QLD.  He started teaching at the Inverell Art Gallery in 1998.  Warwick created the sapphires in the Inverell signs on the outskirts of town.

Lesley likes to challenge her students to reach their full potential. This class has something for artists of all levels.

Lesley Wynne

Lesley won a scholarship to the National Art School in 1948 but was unable to complete the course.  After 50 years of married life, family & station work she returned to her studies.  She has an Advanced Diploma through Tamworth Tafe &  a Bachelor of Fine Arts through Newcastle University where she received Honours with High Distinctions in 2002.  Lesley has taught at the Inverell Art Gallery for many years & also at the local Tafe.
